What we loved:

The team behind the Community Builder’s Guide really delivered with this follow up to the first edition. They’ve expanded on the community management job descriptions, fine-tuned the job-seeking section to address the reality of a market in downturn, and added sections on web3 communities and ambassador programs.

We have more interviews with different community professionals — meaning we get a clearer inside look at what a community manager does depending on their specialty. A recommitment to diversity and inclusion, highlighting community pros at work in underrepresented regions. And there’s an overall greater focus on the humans behind the screen, who are running these online brand communities.

Because communities are nothing without the real people that power them, right? This ebook really puts that front and center, and it feels like that’s an important takeaway in itself.

What we didn't love:

This guide is packed to bursting point and can feel a little chaotic at times. Plus, while we love the new direction, this reads as an industry magazine more than a traditional “guide” or “book.” Not actually a bad thing by any means, but be aware going in! And finally, this reviewer was sad to discover she’s still not too good at crossword puzzles 😉
