about this ebook

For the longest time, product managers focused on developing and delivering the product. But with more and more products hitting the market every day, product managers are quickly becoming more cognizant of the need to validate their assumptions systematically. This is where product discovery excels. When taking your vision through the discovery process, you find what's valuable to your prospects, narrow down what's feasible for your product, and repeat. This book breaks the product discovery process down into three steps. Identifying (understanding and defining) the challenge. Then reframing the problem (brainstorming, prototyping, testing). And finally, presenting your viable solutions to stakeholders.

What we loved:

How much information the book had in so few pages

What we didn't love:

The lack of exercises, templates and/or worksheets

Summary:

This free ebook on product discovery is jam-packed with information. While we typically don't like "histories," the chapter on the history of product development is good context for a topic that's fairly new to product management.

The free ebook does give some good guidelines for developing a product discovery process from scratch, but we wish it went a step farther by providing something we could get our hands dirty with. Still, it's a great intro to the topic and if you follow along on the step-by-step chapter, you can easily develop your own product discovery system without too much trouble.
